Kayla's dream [Aug. 16th, 2006|02:06 am]
The Green Room

[Current Location |with Gil]
[mood |awake]

Kayla is in Drake's. It's a hot summer day, and she's sitting at the large booth in the corner. There are three women sitting across the table from her. One is about Kayla's age, one is middle-aged, one is elderly. They are sipping tea, in unison.

Kayla walks on over.

(Kayla) Hey.. you're those ladies Gil was talking about...

[Youngest]: *small smile* He's quite an interesting young man, isn't he?

Very interesting...Collapse )

Review, Kansas City News & Reviews [Aug. 2nd, 2006|01:38 pm]
The Green Room

[mood |accomplished]

" ... While the performance by headliner Blue Anarchy was pretty good, the debut of their supporting act, Sound and Furious, also from Grace Grove, Michigan, was phenomenal. Crowd reaction and participation was loud and enthusiastic throughout; in addition to singing along to the band's song 'Convictions,' a quirky, intense murder ballad, the band closed their set with a rousing rendition of 'House of the Rising Sun.' I hope they return to KC in the near future. Whenever they do ... don't miss them." --Josh Thompson

Kansas City, here I come ... [Jul. 28th, 2006|02:14 pm]
The Green Room

The truck, trailer and band rolled into Kansas City before noon.

"You guys have about six hours until load-in ... that's when you have to have all your gear at the venue and be ready to go. And that's still hours before you even have to be onstage. Rest up, get something to eat ... Lots of good barbecue places around here, if you're into that kind of thing. If you need anything at all, just let me know."

At the end of the email, he included directions to the place where Sounds and Furious was scheduled to play their first professional gig ... Ellie's, a medium-sized club in a trendy neighborhood.

Written large on a painter's tarp in the practice area [Jul. 27th, 2006|05:09 pm]
The Green Room

"So fare thee well, our own true loves. When we return, united we will be. It's not the leaving of Grace Grove that grieves us, but our darlings, when we think of ye."

We love this town. We'll miss this town. We've got a job to do now, but we'll be back.

Leaving Grace [Jul. 27th, 2006|03:52 pm]
The Green Room
[mood |moodymoody]

The streets are empty at four am,
but the ghosts of the day remain.
I can't hide from her I'm leaving,
can't shield her from this pain.

For so long, you've been my only home,
Grace, I don't want you to be alone.
But I can't stay
I can't give up my chance at fame.

Yes, you're still beautiful
And you still have my heart,
Day will come when I'm home to stay
when we'll never again part.

Grace, will you wait for me?
Will you be there if I fall?
When I can't see past the stage lights,
will you still hear me if I call?

Now the dawn's approaching fast,
These restless nights spent walking,
oh they never really last,
and I'm done with talking anyhow...

The trailer's packed and ready,
my mind is racing, but my hands
my hands are always steady.

Grace, I don't want you to be alone.
But I can't stay - this is my chance
my chance at fame.

Grace wait for me...
be there when I fall
Grace, see me past the stage lights
be the voice that calls...

Planning a surprise [Jul. 21st, 2006|01:19 pm]
The Green Room
[mood |bouncybouncy]
[music |Neva Dinova - Hat O'er Eyes]

Barry had only had Tivo for a few short hours, but already he was loving it. "It's in there, right now, taping all our favorite shows so we don't have to watch them..." he sighed happily as he fished in the cabinet for their cookie sheet.

"It's a marvel," Matty replied, amused. He was opening the package of cookie dough at the kitchen table.

Barry looked over and smiled. They were the picture of domestic bliss, really. He hoped they could continue to maintain this sort of happiness on the road.

"I'm gonna call Danielle and Tina and ask them to come over and share the cookies, okay?" Barry asked casually, as he dropped the pan onto the table for Matty to put the cookies on.

Matty nodded his agreement as he put the cookies onto the pan.

The plan was going perfectly. He'd already arranged for Kayla to come by and distract Matty later so he'd be able to talk to Danielle and Tina alone. He felt positively devious as he made with the calling.

Bad, baby... [Jul. 21st, 2006|12:49 pm]

Baby I want you bad
so be my baby, bad baby
Baby I need you bad
so don't say maybe, baby
Be my bad baby
Baby I want you bad
be my baby, baby

Mari knew the song was complete garbage, but as it played in the background of a jeans commercial on television, she smiled to herself anyhow. Marketing was everything, and this was what sold. Sometimes she regretted 'selling out', but then she remembered what it had been like to be strung out in a shitty hotel eating saltine crackers and ketchup packets for dinner. Using her voice and her body to sell this mindless pop to the masses was a form of prostitution, sure - but it paid well. And everybody loved her! Her name in lights, on billboards and in magazines. Everywhere, it was MARI - she was one of the big one-words, like Madonna and Cher. It didn't matter if her real name wasn't Mari - it no longer mattered what her name had been. She'd left that behind on the streets of Cleveland.

And she'd been happy - at least, what passed for happiness in the form of stuff. It was hard to be unhappy - for one thing, she didn't have time. There was always another video to film, another song to record, another hand to shake and and other dance to choreograph. And then, there was Mike... who true to his own stage name, had made her blue. She knew that they only had a publicity arrangement, maybe at most a bit of friendship and camaraderie underneath the surface - but lately she'd been hoping that maybe it was something real. And coming to this real town with him, this Grace Grove he'd come from - she wondered if maybe there wasn't a chance after all. Mari hadn't spent a lot of time in small towns, ever. Never had much use for them, really. But this place... there was something about it. Something that made her ache for a life that she'd never known with a man she wasn't sure even wanted her for real.

Well, there was just one thing to do about that- the same thing she did about every other troubling thought that came into her mind. She pushed it back down, put on her best smile, and picked up the phone. The new band had the spark - and with any luck they'd do something that neither Mari or Blue had succeeded at - keeping genuine. And she was going to do a bit of helping that along. She dialed the number, wasn't disappointed that she got voicemail.

"Hello! Clive, darling! It's Mari - of course, you know that, don't you? I have a message for you... from me, and Blue and oh, I suppose Sound and Furious wants a hand in it too. Are you ready? Here it is..."

Mari held the phone like a mic and sang into it in her sweetest voice -

"Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah ! Hey hey hey, goodbye....."
